How to use the time card calculator
Enter daily clock-in and clock-out times to calculate a weekly time card. Add unpaid lunch or break minutes and an optional hourly rate to see total hours, decimal hours, an overtime estimate and estimated gross pay.
A Monday–Friday schedule of 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM with a 30-minute unpaid lunch produces 42 hours 30 minutes for the week.
How the time card calculation works
Each row represents one workday. The calculator finds the elapsed time between clock-in and clock-out, subtracts the unpaid break, and adds the resulting paid duration to the weekly time card. It also shows the total in decimal hours for timesheet and payroll-estimate workflows.
As an example, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM is 9 elapsed hours. With a 30-minute unpaid lunch, the calculated paid time is 8 hours 30 minutes. Five such shifts total 42 hours 30 minutes.
Overtime and estimated gross pay
The optional display separates time above 40 hours in the seven-day week and applies a 1.5× multiplier to that portion when estimating gross pay. If a week contains 42.5 calculated hours, the display convention produces 40 regular hours and 2.5 overtime hours.
This is a calculation convention, not a determination of overtime eligibility. Employment classifications, workweek definitions, local laws, contracts and employer policies can change how actual payroll is calculated.
Handling lunch breaks and overnight punches
Use the break field for unpaid minutes that should not count as worked time. Breaks can differ by day. For overnight work, such as 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM, the calculator treats the earlier clock-out time as occurring the next day before deducting the break.
Review unusual punches before relying on a total. Missing punches, split shifts, paid breaks, rounding policies and daylight-saving changes may require treatment beyond a simple time-card calculation.
